How long should a podcast episode be

Episode Description

Another one of those questions that keeps resurfacing is “is there an ideal length for a podcast episode”. And since that seems to be a question on many peoples mind, we decided to take some time to answer it fully.

So in this episode we will be talking about how long you should make your podcast episodes, why is this an important question and how does it influence the success of your podcast?

If this is a question that is (still) on your mind, hit that play button and get your answers in this short and compact episode.

You're listening to podcasting for experts with honest conversations about using podcasting as a tool to grow your reach, increase your audience, make a positive impact on the world, and most importantly, to get paid for your efforts. I'm your host, Jeff and we are pristine podcasts. Let's talk podcasting. Hey, welcome back to another quick episode. This is episode eight. And today I want to talk and just a tiny bit about the length of your podcast episodes. This is another thing that I see new podcasters obsess over constantly. And it really doesn't deserve the amount of attention that it's getting. So my top tip for deciding on the length of your podcast episode is this, do whatever the heck you want. With just one caveat, there should be absolutely nothing irrelevant in the show. Cut the fluff. In my opinion, you are really better off making 102 minute episodes that contain one freaking amazing tip that your audience can go and implement that day and get some kind of result, then you are to waffle for 30 minutes on something that should have taken five minutes to explain. So I think in this day and age where the attention span is so short, it is really important to respect your audience's time. And of course, you can aim to always make your episodes around 20 minutes. That's great and very predictable for people. But sometimes this just isn't going to work. Sometimes you might have something really important to share that you've realised in a random moment, and it's so powerful. Are you not going to share it because it's only five minutes long? Or are you going to end up diluting the message with some random waffle until the moment has kind of passed just so that you can get to 20 minutes? Or maybe you've done an amazing interview with someone but it's 15 minutes long. Are you going to cut two thirds of it out and throw it away because it's too long, and you're going to lose some really good key points? Or are you just going to publish it anyways because you know, people will get so much value from it. I really hope that you're choosing the latter. And to stay true with what I'm seeing here that is already the end of this episode because there's really nothing else to say about this. Don't obsess over minute details like this. Just really focus on delivering your message in the most concise way possible, and just cut the crap out of it. Alrighty, that's it from me. If you enjoyed the show, leave a review. If you'd like to be a guest, drop us an email, you'll find our email address in the show notes. And I hope you have an amazing day. We'll see you for the next one. And that's it for this episode.
